![]() This is significant because it reveals his intention behind this painting: expressing this scene’s beauty. That changed where he experienced the beauty for himself. While researching this painting briefly I found that Monet didn’t originally intend to paint this on his trip because he believed that it had been overdone. If his intention was to be ambiguous, I think he clearly did a good job because I am unsure as to what he was going for. If that was the case, I think Monet should have made it clearer that that was what his aim was by either using a warmer color like yellow. Analyzes how frederic edwin churchs painting twilight in the wilderness uses contrast, color, rhythm, and focal points to capture the beauty of a sunset. At first glance, I hypothesized that this was the sun in the horizon. One thing I was somewhat confused about was, what seemed to me to be, an attempt in the righthand side of the painting to be a few buildings. We, as a viewer, are able to see the buildings within the lefthand side of the painting based on Monet’s choice to use a darker color, giving both the appearance of the buildings, as well as the illusion that the sun is setting and it is a silhouette of the buildings behind the sun on the horizon. Additionally, the use of primary colors reflects the idea of how pure and natural this setting is. This allows the artist, Monet, to, once again reinforce the idea of the contrast between water and sky. As I stated earlier, the color scheme is repeated and reflected within this painting. I also picked this painting for its striking color scheme. I believe he was successful at portraying that. This is because he is trying to express the beauty and serenity of this landscape. Additionally, the fact that he uses horizontal lines throughout the painting is a way to project calm feelings, according to our textbook, which makes sense in the context of this painting. The water has much longer, horizontal strokes and gives off the illusion of water whereas the sky is almost dot-like and has a pattern of “x”s. The reflection of the buildings in the water make it all the more clear that the bottom half is a representation of water. ![]() I find it super interesting that although Monet is using the same colors between the sky and the water, the viewer is still able to differentiate between the water and the sky based on the way it was painted. The biggest reason I decided to revisit this painting was because of the the way the painting was paint by this, I mean the texture and pattern of the brush strokes. Before this assignment, I had seen this painting in various art classes throughout elementary, middle, and high school. ![]() I chose this painting for a multitude of reasons but the biggest reasons being the bright colors and the reflection aspect in the water. The painting I chose was “San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk” by Claude Monet. ![]()
